Though Colorado insurance companies have yet to top the charts, their ratings are still far more superior to many others, as compared in the US NEWS for the Best Health Plans of 2006.  Colorado’s competitive insurance market is ensuring better care, better physicians and greater favorable results. For instance, CIGNA, though a large group insurance carrier, has rated among the top companies in the USA garnering a spectacular ranking of 54 and an overall rating of 86.8%.  According to patient surveys, CIGNA is in the ranks of many of the top nationwide insurance carriers, with patient satisfaction in areas such as access to care, plan physicians, prevention plans and overall treatments. Also at the top is the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado, ranking at 56 only two spots down from CIGNA and an overall superb rating of 86.7%. Kaiser’s forte appears to be in access to care, specifically in getting care in a timely manner, as well as an extremely high rating for treatment services. As for the remainder of the Colorado carriers, though their rankings are not quite as high as those aforementioned, their overall ratings are still competitive; PacifiCare at 85.4% with strengths in access to care, physicians and treatment; United Health Care with an overall rating of 85.9%, with great reviews areas such as access to care, physician selection and prevention medicine. US NEWS recommends that patients should carefully select insurance carriers based upon their personal needs, but the confirmation by other patients that the given insurance carrier of choice has an overall top rating is certain to provide one with a peace of mind.
