As the 2008 elections approach, two major issues are looming in the back of every voters’ mind; Iraq, and the health insurance industry, as well as the uninsured. The big question: How can we insure America? Is raising taxes, and providing “free health careâ€? the answer? Yes, and No. Both sides have their pros and cons, and of course if our health industry is heading toward the direction of “socialized medicineâ€?, I could be out of a job. But whether I agree or not, something must be done at least for our children.
Â
According to news.com, congress is negotiating the reauthorization of the State Children’s Insurance Program (SCHIP), which would provide health care benefits to children of families who live below a certain poverty level. This proposal would cost $50 billion to vastly expand SCHIP. How will the government come up with such a figure? Well, one option is to raise the Federal tax on cigarettes by 61 cents. Will this outrage our nation’s smokers? Maybe. But again, we owe it to the future of this country; our children, the proper health care, and easy access they need.
Â
If this means that I may have to pay a little more in taxes, I deem that as something I can endure. Again, if this may lead to a plausible solution for all uninsured individuals, my imminent unemployment would near, and thus I have as of yet to take a full stand as there are always advantages and disadvantages to any progress, and I, just as anyone else should be fully informed before making a decision. Ultimately I desire what is best for our country and its nation. Selling health insurance is not just a means to an end for me, but truly an opportunity to assist many with their health needs. So many people are unable to afford their own health care, and or they are not eligible, and by knowing the industry and working with programs such as Cover Colorado, I am able to find a solution for such cases.
